NUMA Group becomes new operator of Residenza Gruenwald in Venice

NUMA Residenza Gruenwald
  • Property in prime location near future Rosewood Hotel Bauer Venice owned by SIGNA Real Estate since May 2020
  • Grand reopening in 2025
  • Focus on sustainability and preservation of the historic building fabric

Vienna, Venice, Berlin, April 18, 2023 – The NUMA Group has confirmed it will be the new operator of the historic Residenza Grünwald in the heart of Venice. The property, owned by SIGNA Real Estate since May 2020, enjoys a prime location close to the future Rosewood Hotel Bauer Venice, on the banks of the Grand Canal, near the world-famous Piazza San Marco. For the time being, the elegant domicile will be known as NUMA Residenza Grünwald Venice.

The hotel has been closed to guests since early November 2022 as it undergoes a three-year renovation. The refurbishment is based on plans from the renowned Italian architect Alberto Torsello and is timed to coincide with the remodeling of the nearby Rosewood Hotel Bauer Venice. The interiors will be designed by NUMA to forge a harmony between modernity and rich Venetian tradition. The hotel is scheduled to reopen in 2025.

Heinz Peter Hager, President of SIGNA Italia: “Our partnership with the NUMA Group will see this historic property managed by one of Europe’s most popular and fastest growing operators of innovative design domiciles. We are very much looking forward to working together closely in the future and to creating a brand new highlight in Italy’s lagoon city.”

Dimitri Chandogin, President of the NUMA Group: “Securing this exclusive location in Venice allows us to further expand our range of high-quality, fully digitalized NUMA domiciles in Italy. This new operating partnership also confirms SIGNA’s confidence in our business model, which provides a contemporary and demand-oriented alternative to the classic hotel, and benefits from changes in consumer behavior as a megatrend.”

Once completed, the new NUMA Residenza Grünwald Venice will have 19 spacious rooms, including two equipped with altanas – typical Venetian raised wooden rooftop terraces. Thanks to the built-in kitchenettes, the rooms are also ideally suited for longer stays. NUMA offers tourists and business travelers the perfect accommodation for their trip to Venice.

Preserving the building’s historic fabric

The renovation will be undertaken in close collaboration and coordination with Venetian authorities. Great importance is attached to the careful treatment of the existing building and the preservation of the building’s historic fabric. Great attention is also being paid to the issue of sustainability in both the planning and implementation stages. SIGNA is targeting LEED, Casa Clima and Greenpass sustainability certification for the property.
